Mogens Lykketoft (Speaker of the Danish Parliament)

Mogens Lykketoft was born in 1946 in Copenhagen. He started his career as a social democratic student leader in the 1960's and holds a degree in economics from the University of Copenhagen (1971). He has been a member of the Danish Social Democrats since 1964, and was elected to the Danish Parliament Folketing in 1981, where he first became Minister for Taxation (1981-1982). In the four cabinets of Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, he held positions as Finance Minister (1993-2000) and Foreign Minister (2000-2001). In September 2011, Mogens Lykketoft became Speaker of the Folketing.
