Isolation has given the Irish National History Competition a newfound lease of life: In 2020, the Irish National History Competition has cast its net much farther afield - this year appealing for entries from more than 700 Irish secondary schools. Directly aligned with Europe’s EUSTORY Network, this year the Irish competition is poised to go viral.

With an online award ceremony on 30 July 2020, the Irish National History Competition organisers made the most of a rather difficult situation. Their online celebration was able to create an atmosphere similar to the Oscars with the suspenseful revealing of prize winners at the end of their ceremony.

22 May 2019 was the day of the finals for the Irish History Competition organised by “Breaking the SEAL” (BTS). The occasion was incorporated in the 20 Year Celebration of the National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG)’s Access Centre. The Centre aims at providing support to students coming from non-tradition routes to access third level education. BTS is one such programme.
