Russian Award Ceremony 2013
Youngsters from all over Russia celebrated the award ceremony of the 14th Russian history competition in Moscow on 30 April 2013. The competition is run by the International MEMORIAL Society and the topic of the competition was "Man in History – Russia in the 20th Century".
There were 1,663 competition entries from 1,919 young researchers from more than 700 cities, towns and villages. Within the regular competition, there were two small ones - an essay and a photo competition.The idea behind these small projects was to give as many students as possible a chance to get involved.
The title of the essay competition was "On the Verge of the World War II". Participants were asked to write about people whose tragedies and ordeals haven't become part of the official history of World War II. There were 326 entries. The title of the photographic competition was "The Places of Memory, the Places of Oblivion. Hometown, Family Archive". 169 photostories were submitted. The best entries of both small competitions are published on the website "Lessons of History" (www.urokiistorii.ru).
85-year-old Ljudmilla Alexeeva, well-known human rights activist and chair person of the Moscow Helsinki Group, held the key-note speech and encouraged award winners to make decency and humanity the guiding principles of their lives.
