On 3 May, 2019, the prize winners of the 20th Estonian history competition were announced at the Ministry of Education and Research in Tartu.

The topic of this competition was “Freedom”. This year, 63 research papers were submitted - 15 from middle schools, 40 from highschools and 8 in a creative category. "Good friends, let´s hold our freedoms, it guarantees freedom of thought and research that is important to every historian," the President of the Republic of Estonia, Kersti Kaljulaid, wrote in her speech which was read out by Karolina Antons, a member of the Estonian History and Civics Teachers’ Association who organises the history competitions.

In addition to the prizes and diplomas of the President of the Republic of Estonia, special awards were also given by the Estonian National Museum, the National Archives of Estonia, the Estonian Art Museum, the Estonian Sports and Olympic Museum and the Estonian History Memory Institute.

"On the first of September 2019 we would like start the next competition. The topic will be “Estonia in the World, the World in Estonia," the organisers of this competition, Evelin Tiiter and Karolina Antons, announced.
