On 4 May, 2018, the prize winners of the 19th Estonian history competition were announced by the President of the Republic of Estonia, Kersti Kaljulaid, at the Ministry of Education and Research in Tartu.

In her speech, President Kaljulaid stressed the effects of history on the present and pointed out how actions in the past can shape our everyday life. She further emphasised the importance of research and creative processes from diverse disciplines for the Estonian state, ranging from the work of IT engineers or humanitarian researchers to the works of artists.

The topic of this competition was “A Hundred Years of Estonian Statehood”. A total of 72 research projects were submitted by 88 participants. The entries varied from traditional research papers to creative projects. Overall, the jury stated that they were highly satisfied with the qualitative turnout of this round.

The competition was organised by “The Estonian History and Civics Teachers’ Association”.
